Mother Clara Spencer, affectionally known as Aunt Dena was born on August 18, 1942, in Montogomery County, North Carolina, to the late Judge and Armelia Williams. She left us on August 24, 2024, at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Clara was preceded in death by her later husband Charles Harold Spencer, her parents Judge and Armelia Williams, her brothers Lloyd Henry Robert, Walker, Joseph, and Leon Williams. Her sisters Alberta Goldston, Irene Williams. And her daughter Theresa Ann Spencer.
Clara was the seventh child of seventeen children. She attended Vineland Elementary School in West End, North Carolina and Pickney High School in Carthage, North Carolina. She left home and headed for New York in her early twenties and made New York her new beginning.
Growing up in a religious home she began a lifelong relationship with Christ. She attended The House of Prayer in Taylortown, North Carolina and served under Bishop Larry Brown and First
Lady Mother Elise Brown.
Clara loved to cook, dance and spend time with her family and grandchildren. She worked for the state at John Double Saunders Group Home and attended Providence Baptist Church in
Harlem, New York. After returning to North Carolina Clara worked as a caregiver for several different agencies until she retired at the age of 81.
Clara will be dearly missed and leaves behind three daughters: Beverly Kennedy (Romaro) of Eagle Springs, North Carolina, Kim Spencer Harris (Cleveland) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Charner Steed (Valdez) of Penasauken, New Jersey. A son Charles Spencer, Jr. of Aberdeen, North Carolina. One granddaughter / daughter she raised from birth Tiffany Norton (Terrance) of Southern Pines, North Carolina.
Five sisters: Verlean Scott (Apostle W. L. Scott) of North Carolina, Maxine Kelly of New Jersey, Jerleen Jones (Thomas) of North Carolina, Beulah Williams of Las Vegas and Delphine
Harris (Charlie) of North Carolina. Four brothers: Gene Williams (Mary Ann) of North Carolina, Darin Williams, Warren Williams, and Anthony Williams (Patricia) of North Carolina.
Twenty-seven grandchildren of North Carolina, two grandchildren of New York City. Thirty-three great grands of North Carolina and one great grand of New York City. One God-daughter Faye Jones “aka” Yumps and sister Shirley Cagle of Eagle Springs, North Carolina.
A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. And a special friend Bernice McLeod of North Carolina.
