Dorothy Vascile (Brower) Barrett

Mrs. Dorothy Vascile Barrett, 97 of Robbins, NC, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020. She was the 4th child of nine children born to the late Henry Brower and Ada Maness Brower on June 9, 1923.

Known by many as “Vascile” she was a lifelong member of New Zion AME Zion Church in Robbins, NC, where she served as a Trustee, Class Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Usher, Missionary worker and held many other positions. Vascile worked as a Domestic Engineer for prominent families in Robbins as well as the Head Start Program. She worked at Elise Elementary School and also drove Moore County school bus for this area for many years. Vascile worked at Russell Hosiery Mill in Star, NC until her retirement in 1988, after twenty years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Wade Barrett and one son Wayland Barrett who died an infant. She leaves to cherish her legacy and loving memories, one son Jerry Barrett of the home, daughters Velma Lane of Southern Pines, NC Jeanette Thomas (James) of Plainfield, NJ, Ledele Ross (Charles) of Aberdeen, NC, Stephanie McCrimmon (Paul) of Robbins, NC, Lucinda Ward of Apex, NC, 12 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, sisters, Beulah Shamberger of Asheboro, NC, Eulah Johnson of Robbins, NC, and Willa Howard of Garner, NC.

She also cherished and leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, special friends, neighbors, and caregivers.
